Surfboards to bikinis! In 2008, a father and his daughter sat at the dining table of a home in San Clemente, CA. The father had a dream of owning his own surfboard company so at that table we brainstormed names. In Portuguese, the word “Muléke” means “grom” (also known as a kid who is adventurous and loves to get dirty and have fun). The father always called his daughter “Muléka” and his son “Muléke.” In that moment we realized that the name of the company had to be “Muléke Surfboards”, as his children were his inspiration and his target market was groms. https://www.mulekesurfboards.com/
Life vs Time
As the years went by, the company became very successful, but his children were growing up and so were his target market. The daughter approached her teen years, and she started to grow into herself as a Brazilian woman. As an active person with surfing and swimming, she could never find a bikini that made her feel comfortable, supportive, and hot. She began to lose confidence and did not want to do the activities she loved anymore because of her insecurities. Everything felt as if it were made for girls the size of a twig, and nothing catered to her needs.
The Creation of Muléka Bikinis
So, the father and the daughter got together and brainstormed ideas of what they could do. They decided to create a sub-company for the surfboard company called “Muléka Bikinis”. This would hopefully extend the target market to not only children for the surfboard company, but also to teenagers, adults, and women. Vision
Together, we hope to bring confidence back to adventurous and active women and love back to the art of surfing. Surfing is not just a sport, it is a culture and a family, and everyone is welcome no matter shape, size, gender, or interests! Surfboards to bikinis!
